About me
Hello, my name is Bruce Jones. I’ve been playing sports for about eleven years, spending countless hours training and competing. Most games feel normal, but sometimes something special happens—everything slows down, my body reacts without thinking, and a play comes together perfectly. That feeling is called being “in the zone.” It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it reminds me why I love sports so much.

One of the clearest times I’ve ever been “in the zone” happened during a rugby game a couple years ago. Everything was moving fast, but for me it suddenly felt slow and controlled, almost like my brain and body were synced perfectly. The other team kicked the ball high, and as it came down, it was like the noise around me faded out. I wasn’t overthinking or panicking—I just reacted.
I caught the ball clean, slipped past the first defender without even realizing how I did it, and started running. My feet felt light, my decision-making felt automatic, and every fake and step I made seemed to happen at the perfect time. I could hear my teammates yelling, but my focus stayed locked in. I broke through the line, kept going, and somehow managed to score. The moment ended as fast as it started, and afterward I thought to myself, Did I really just do that?
That’s what being in the zone feels like it surprises you, but it also feels completely natural in the moment.
